Danish firm eyes offshore wind farm in Haiphong

Nguyen Duc Tho, vice chairman of the municipal government, on November 3, had a meeting with a delegation led by Troels Jakobsen, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, to discuss the Danish firm’s proposal.
According to the proposal, the wind power project will require some US$13.6 billion in investment and will be implemented in three phases. Besides, the project is expected to generate around 13 million MWh of power annually.
Earlier in July, when the firm was focusing on building a 4.6-GW wind power plant in Tuy Phong District of Binh Thuan Province, a representative of Orsted in Vietnam had confirmed that the company was looking for opportunities to develop an offshore wind power project in Haiphong.
The Haiphong vice chairman said the city would create favorable conditions for the investor and requested more details related to the project. He also added that the project must ensure compliance with the prevailing regulations.
